Charlotte is a multi-award winning playwright from Springfield, Oregon. She is currently based in Provo, Utah and is studying playwriting at Brigham Young University.
Hattie’s Echo is her first full length musical and served as the catalyst for her love of playwriting. Charlotte focuses on faith-based theatre and hopes to use playwriting as a tool for initiating real connectivity to divinity and to self. She's interested in creative works that ask the God question. Is there a God? How do we know? Why do we care?
Charlotte has always loved music. Singing around the piano with family, performing in choirs and musicals growing up... She only took her first stab at composing while developing Hattie's Echo.
"I had never felt so close to the divine then when I was learning to compose. I would write out the lyrics to a song first, and then the melody sort of erupted from the tempo of the text on the page. I cannot deny the very realness of God's presence in this work. He was teaching me to do something I'd never done before. "
"I have come to know through personal experience that Christ is closer to us when we are on the kitchen floor, in the check out line, on the subway, or in the doctor's office rather than on the mountain top. When we have nothing left to give in the atmosphere of a temporal world, only then can we be raised up to become celestial beings.
I believe in the call to glorify God and to rely on a savior. The creatives of this world have a great responsibility to help tell stories that reveal God in his true form. May we all heed that call and gather together in that place called, Zion."
